Hampton, New Hampshire, December 2020—GruntWorx, LLC, an industry-leading, OCR-based tax automation solution, is working with machine-learning experts to make our automated document verification process even more accurate.
OCR, or optical character recognition, software converts text on scanned documents into a digital form that can be manipulated by other programs, like word processors or professional tax preparation software. GruntWorx uses OCR to produce bookmarked, searchable PDFs and import-ready tax files, eliminating manual document organization and data entry from tax-preparation workflow.
Machine learning programs are a type of artificial intelligence that can be taught to perform designated tasks more efficiently. To improve the speed and accuracy of document verification, the algorithm will be trained using examples of human-validated documents—creating a “brain” that becomes smarter as it views more documents.
GruntWorx is leveraging Google's TensorFlow technology and applying state-of-the-art techniques from the greatest minds in machine learning research to build computer vision and natural language processing pipelines that provide an unprecedented level of accuracy in our automation solutions.
“By implementing machine learning in our tax-automation solutions, even the most complex consolidated brokerage statements can be imported accurately,” said GruntWorx Vice President Julie Pierce. “Since the technology will get smarter as it sees more documents, that means our products will continue to offer better value for customers.”
